ArahWeave DEMO installation

ArahWeave 5.3q DEMO ©2011, Arahne, d.o.o.

Do not be scared away by this page! It is not complicated to install ArahWeave, we just want to cover everything step by step, so even complete beginners to Linux can install it.

ArahWeave is one of the few Linux programs which can be installed by any user, with a single mouse click, no questions asked.

Linux installation is now as easy as Windows, so it should not be a problem. If you still run into trouble, contact your Linux vendor.

As most people hate reading long instructions - we will immediately jump to quick instructions to install ArahWeave. Then, if you have difficulties, you can still scroll to the bottom of the page, to figure out what and why went wrong...

First, you need to have a relatively new version of Linux to run the demo. If your Linux is less than 2 years old, you should be OK. For example OpenSUSE 10.1, 10.2 10.3 11.0, 11.1, 11.2 are all OK. If your Linux is older than that, do yourself a favor and upgrade. Linux has made big progress in the mean time; it is like going from Windows XP to Vista.
We have also tested the program on Kubuntu 7.10, 8.04, 9.04, 9.10, 10.4 and it works OK.

Installing ArahWeave

You do not need any special permissions or passwords to install ArahWeave DEMO, everything will be installed in your home directory. You only need to download two files:

In some browsers, you need to press Shift on the keyboard and click left mouse button, to save the file to disk. If you are downloading from Linux, just save the file to the same directory, desktop is the best place in this case. If download from an other operating system, you can put the two installation files to the USB memory key, or burn them on the CD. Once on Linux, you must open the contents of the USB key or CD and copy the two files to the desktop. If you are impatient, just click on INSTALL_DEMO to run the installation, say OK to install, and you are done. In some systems, you need to give execute permission to the installation program, so click right mouse button, select Properties, go into Permissions, and give it the Execute permission. Then just click on it with left mouse button to run the installation.
If everything went fine, you now have four new icons on your desktop: ArahWeave, ArahPaint4 and ArahDrape. This should work both in KDE as in GNOME desktop environments. Click on them with mouse to run the programs.
All functions in ArahWeave are operational, only saving is is disabled.
But you can print and save fabric simulations as images!
ArahPaint4 is fully operational without any limits.

ArahDrape has save disabled for projects, but you can save texture mapped images.

It is a good idea to start by selecting your language in Files->Save setup of ArahWeave. For Chinese or Thai, you need to have the proper fonts installed, or text won't show up correctly.

Try loading some of the demo fabrics, and switch View modes and Zoom levels. This should give you an initial idea about program speed and quality of simulation. Don't be afraid to try the Browse in the Files menu. You can graphically browse fabrics, images and weaves, in all supported formats. Now if this makes you interested, as we hope it will, you can start looking at our tutorials on our web page. They have been designed so that you can both appreciate program's capabilities, as well as reproduce them on your own. In some cases, we also provide files for the exercise.

You can download the manuals in PDF format
We do not include manuals in the demo distribution, to reduce file download size.

Configuration necessary for installation of Arahne's programs:

Troubleshooting

I have problems on Ubuntu

Try Kubuntu, and programs will work. If you wish to stay with your current Linux distribution, do
sudo apt-get install kdelibs
sudo apt-get install mtools
First command will install the necessary Qt library, which we use for the ArahPaint4 program. The second command will install tools to add support for writing and reading from floppies.

Printer and floppy related problems

Check the Linux setup page for step by step tutorials.

Measuring colors with GretagMacbeth Spectrolino does not work

You are a lucky owner of GretagMacbeth Spectrolino, and you want to test measurements with ArahWeave, you must give read/write permissions to serial port (do this as root):
chmod a+rw /dev/ttyS0
chmod a+rw /dev/ttyS1
Note that you must click on a color or yarn prior to starting the measurements, so that you select the destination of measurement.

How to remove the ArahWeave DEMO
