Insert floppy disk, and connect external floppy drive to PC. In the pop up window click OK.
You will get info about unsuccessful mount, and media window will be opened. Remember
what is written in the Location bar. In our example it is sdb.
Open terminal window. There are many ways, how to open a "terminal window", or
"shell", here we describe just one of them:
press ALT+F2 on the keyboard, and in the Run command window type:
konsole
and click the Run button, or press Enter.
In the Konsole type su, press Enter, type root password, and enter command:
kwrite /etc/mtools.conf
and press Enter.
File mtools.conf will be opened in the Kwrite text editor. The first
line contains the standard location of the floppy drive (/dev/fd0).
You have to change fd0 to USB floppy location - in our example it is sdb,
on your computer may be different.
Now you need to save the file. Choose File -> Save, and close the Kwrite text editor.
Now you will be able to access the USB floppy drive as if it was a regular floppy, by using mtools. So you will be able to save or read floppies in DOS format directly from ArahWeave.
Please note that reading or writing of floppies on USB floppy drive in nonstandard formats, like Stäubli JC3 or Stäubli JC4 is still not possible. You need a normal floppy drive for this.
