High quality printing on Linux is handled by Gutenprint, a package of open source printer drivers. Unfortunately, the version of Gutenprint included on OpenSUSE is always outdated, so you have to install the newest Gutenprint package.
Download gutenprint 5.2.6, and copy the file gutenprint-5.2.6-1.3.i586.rpm to the Desktop.
Click the file icon (rpm) with the right mouse button. From the menu choose Open with Install Software.
First you have to enter the administrator (root) password.
The Software manager installs the package. Window is closed automatically. The new Gutenprint is installed.
It will be easier to you to follow the instructions, if you change the default Suse menu style. To change it,
click with the right mouse button on the green chameleon menu icon
in the lower left corner of the screen, and choose Switch to KDE menu style.
The chameleon will change its form to
.
Click the green K Menu icon
, and choose
System > YaST (Administrator Settings).
Enter Password.
Click Hardware in the left-side menu, then Printer in the right-side menu.
Click the Add button in the YaST2 window
YaST2 starts with printer recognition.
It finds a printer (Epson Stylus Photo 950 in our case). The name "epsonstylusphoto950" was assigned by system.
If there are more drivers for particular printer, you have to select it from the list, and then click OK.
Confirm the settings once again.
YaST2 writes the printer configuration, and closes the window automatically.
Open ArahWeave and choose Files > Print fabric to printer....
This brings the Print fabric to printer dialog. You cand see, that TIFF is
currently selected as a printer type. To change it to real printer, click the Printer setup button.
In the Printer setup dialog find your printer in the list, select it, and click OK.
If you have more than one printer connected to PC, then you need to choose a printer from the list of system printers.
To make your settings permanent, choose Files > Save setup, and click OK to save the printer settings. The next time you run any of Arahne's programs (ArahWeave, ArahPaint4, ArahDrape), you will be able to print without problems.
