Works on Linux operating system
With Virtual Machine:
Virtual Machine recomended for Windows is VMWare Virtual machine recommended for Mac is ParallelsArahne works on Mac with Virtual Machine

You need to have a relatively new version of Linux to run the demo. If your Linux is less than 3 years old, you should be OK. For example OpenSUSE 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 11.0, 11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4, 12.1 are all OK. If your Linux is older than that, do yourself a favor and upgrade. Linux has made big progress in the mean time; it is like going from Windows XP to 7.
We have also tested the program on Kubuntu 7.10, 8.04, 9.04, 9.10, 10.4, 10.10, 11.04, 11.10 and it works OK.

Installing Arahne DEMO software

First download two files.

  •

awdemo.tar.bz2 ArahWeave 6.0d DEMO; 10 MB (8.Jan.2012)

  •

INSTALL_DEMO Installation program; 0.07 MB

In some browsers, you need to press Shift on the keyboard and click left mouse button, to save the file to disk. If you are downloading from Linux, just save the file to the same directory, desktop is the best place in this case. If download from an other operating system, you can put the two installation files to the USB memory key, or burn them on the CD. Once on Linux, you must open the contents of the USB key or CD and copy the two files to the desktop.

In some systems, you need to give execute permission to the installation program, so click on the file with the right mouse button, select Properties, go into Permissions, and give it the Execute permission.

Then just click on the INSTALL_DEMO with the left mouse button to run the installation, say OK to install, and you are done.

If everything went fine, you now have three new icons on your desktop: ArahWeave, ArahPaint4 and ArahDrape. This should work both in KDE as in GNOME desktop environments. Click on them to run the programs.

ArahPaint is fully functional without any limits. ArahWeave DEMO has disabled "saving fabric" function, but you can save and print fabric simulations as images. ArahDrape DEMO has disabled "saving project" function, but you can save projects as images.

It is a good idea to start by selecting your language in Files->Save setup of ArahWeave. Try loading some of the demo fabrics, and switch View modes and Zoom levels. This should give you an initial idea about program speed and quality of simulation. Don't be afraid to try the Browse in the Files menu. Now if this makes you interested, as we hope it will, you can start learning with our tutorials. They have been designed so that you can both appreciate program's capabilities, as well as reproduce them on your own. In some cases, we also provide files for the exercise. You can download the manuals in PDF format.
