Stäubli JC3 or JC4 floppy
Enabling writing of Stäubli JC3 or JC4 floppies from ArahWeave on OpenSUSE 10.3 or later
The reading and writing of non-DOS floppies does not work on SUSE, because the default write permissions are wrong in the operating system. By following these instructions, you will be able to fix this problem permanently. We can only correct it for internal floppies. External USB floppies do not work with non-DOS formats, like Stäubli JC3 or JC4. Keep that in mind when purchasing your computer.
It will be easier to you to follow the instructions, if you change the default SUSE menu style. To change it, click with the right mouse button on the green chameleon menu icon
in the lower left corner of the screen, and choose Switch to KDE menu style. The chameleon will change its form to
.
Click the green K Menu icon
, and choose System > File Manager > File Manager - Super User Mode.
Enter the password.
In the file manager navigate to /etc/init.d directory.
With the right mouse button, click on the file xdm, and choose Open With->KWrite from the drop down menu.
In the KWrite, scroll to the end of the file, and just before the last line add following command:
chmod 777 /dev/fd0*
In the KWrite, choose File > Save.
Close the window and restart the computer.
